Why GIVIT during disasters?
Our 100% promise
If you give to a disaster appeal, 100% of your donation is used to buy essential goods and services for people impacted by that disaster. If you donate to a request, your funds are used on the exact request you choose.
Trusted government partner
GIVIT is the trusted donation management partner of state and local governments.
Direct impact
When donating against a specific request, you can connect with an individual or family’s story, and know you’re playing a part in their recovery journey.
Support local businesses
GIVIT purchases from local providers where possible to support the economic recovery of disaster impacted regions.
How GIVIT works

How unrequested donations hinder recovery
When disaster strikes, the urge to help is powerful. The generous Australian public digs deep to help communities affected by bushfires, floods, cyclones or storms. But well-meaning donations of unrequested goods can do more harm than good. Here are some of the reasons why:
- Recovery organisations must spend valuable time receiving, sorting, storing and distributing unsolicited donated items, taking them away from critical aid work.
- Many unrequested donations are never needed and end up landfill.
- Transporting unrequested donations to a disaster-impacted community from elsewhere in the country, then sorting, storing and distributing them is much slower than providing a disaster-impacted family with a voucher to a local retailer to buy what they need.
- Unsolicited donations also clog up disaster relief supply chains, take up crucial storage space, and can undermine the recovery of local businesses.
Our priority during disaster recovery is to ensure people who’ve been impacted get exactly what they need. We do that by channelling generous financial donations from the public into essential goods and services. GIVIT also allows people to offer their goods, time and services for donation, which can then be claimed and used by organisations working in recovery only if they’re needed.
