Communities on the South Coast of NSW which copped the full brunt of the recent bushfires, and then were further impacted by COVID, have found relief through a GIVIT donation.
An upright freezer was requested by Waminda, a health and welfare organisation, to help provide healthy meals for Indigenous communities throughout South Coast NSW. When bushfires ravaged the area, the team at Waminda found themselves providing meals as a form of bushfire relief to local communities. This soon turned into COVID support for as many families as possible. But the increased demand meant their current freezer proved insufficient.
To ensure the team could cook and provide meals again, GIVIT quickly organised the donation and delivery of an upright freezer. The delivery was met with great whoops and hollers and the freezer was put to use immediately.
A thank you note from the Waminda team reads,
"What can we say but thank you, thank you, thank you. Thank you for seamlessly organising a stand-up freezer for our Organisation. You have greatly improved our daily kitchen process and that of our Indigenous clients and bushfire-affected Indigenous communities.”
In partnership with the NSW Government, GIVIT is managing donations of goods and services for communities affected by the bushfires. GIVIT is also working with federal and state governments to manage donations and ensure people and communities impacted by COVID-19 have access to essential items.
