OFFICIAL DONATION CHANNEL OPEN – RUSSELL ISLAND HOUSE FIRES

GIVIT IS COORDINATING DONATIONS AND OFFERS OF ASSISTANCE TO HELP PEOPLE AFFECTED BY HOUSE FIRES ON RUSSELL ISLAND

GIVIT has partnered with Redlands City Council to manage donations of items, services and funds for families impacted by house fires on Russell Island over the weekend.

All donations should be directed to the GIVIT Russell Island House Fires Appeal at GIVIT.org.au.

GIVIT Queensland Manager Christina Spehr said uncoordinated donations can hamper recovery efforts.

“My first message is please do not send donations to Russell Island,” said Ms Spehr.

“GIVIT is working directly with Redlands City Council and Queensland Department of Communities to identify exactly what’s needed to make sure people that have been impacted get what they need, when they need it.”

“GIVIT.org.au is an easy and efficient way of donating directly to people impacted by this event, without overwhelming charities and frontline services on the island.”

Christina Spehr said the needs of people affected by this event will evolve over time, with basic essentials required early on and larger items such as furniture and whitegoods later as people move into new homes.

“GIVIT will be working with local organisations over the coming days, weeks and months to identify the exact needs of impacted families. These requests will be listed on GIVIT.org.au so we encourage people to keep checking the GIVIT website to find out how they can help.”

Members of the public can donate through www.givit.org.au/russell-island-house-fires with 100% of donated funds received by GIVIT used to purchase essential items and services for impacted people.

If you have an item to donate that is not listed, please register the item on www.givit.org.au/donate-items
